Barrow Offshore Wind Farm

Project Overview:

The Barrow Offshore Wind Farm is one of the Crown Estates Round 1 Offshore Wind Demonstration projects and construction was completed in winter 2005/2006. The site comprises of thirty 3 MW wind turbines located 20 km offshore near Barrow on Furness in north west England.

Project Involvement:

• Examination of electrical aspects of turnkey contract bids and comparative assessment of bids to assist in selection of preferred contractor;

• Negotiations with National Grid (NG) and the local Distribution Network Operator for grid connection including technical and site considerations and commercial/ charging arrangements;

• Appraisal of connection options including costs, construction requirements and risks;

• Discussions with NG regarding latest Grid Code requirements and negotiations regarding their interpretation and application to the project.
